Trial, errors, mistakes and frustration

I can't believe it was time to make prototypes. I made a swirly pyramid and printed it to see if the swirls would be applicable in real life. I used the pyramid template I made a week ago. This isn't my final object though. I have finally decided that the object I am going to use is a necklace pendant from an Asian series called Meteor Garden. My boyfriend gave me a necklace of it on my birthday. It wasn't the original million dollar worth of pendant but the fact that he remembers that I love the design of the necklace is enough for me to appreciate it. 


I used that photo as a reference for the sketch but for the star I used the polygon setting. I extruded the star to make it solid but I wanted it to be more round than edged, so I asked for helped from Greg and we did fillet edge on the shape. 


For the organic shapes, I sketched it and did the sweep2 method in order to make it solid. IT WAS A PAIN. I couldn't join surfaces together and all I can make is this.



I don't think I can unfold the organic shapes especially when they are not connected so I unfolded the star instead. 

I exploded the star again but this time with labels in order for it to be easier to assemble.

Life can be hell when you don't manage time very well. Speaking of hell, that's my inspiration for the first sketch I made but let me show you the wack ones first: The Idea for this one was "an outline of each shape offseted then do the same thing again in another direction and boolean union together" concept for the top one: made out of 6 different shapes and as the hierarchy lowers, one shape is taken away concept for the weird line one: using lines to create the shape, they're small and ring sized or something. eye spy with my little i, a castle that can't reach the skeye and a lady who barely remembers how to use Rhino

I do remember the basics of Rhino but do I remember ALL of the basics? Nope. The idea behind my castle was an eye. First thing I did was drawing a shape of an eye using "Control Point Curve" and extruded it to which it became the outer wall of the castle. I wanted to make this outer wall thicker but I don't remember how and I wasn't in the Wednesday help time. This castle has 3 walls... ...unnecessary walls. For the inner wall, I used "Torus" in order for the wall to have density. I wasn't really thinking about this and I could've used "Circle", extruded the curve and then un-"capped" it so it would look more like a wall like what I did with the actual castle. But people make mistakes and I just realized it while I'm making this blog. This inner wall has a parabola-ish shaped gate. More Brainstorming and More team mates!

Yesterday we were placed into a group of 5. My team consists of Sara, Mich, Lex and Shannon. We were told to plan for our last print using the ceramic 3D printer. When we grouped up, we took our printed design and showed it to the group. We started exchanging ideas but it was mostly Sarah and Michi who were talking. Me and the others contributed a little bit but mostly agreed on what Sarah and Michi were saying. Here are some of the concepts that I sketched for this project; We discussed that for the our final concept, it's going to have Sarah's base, using Shannon's Christmas Tree shape with the ends using organic shapes, like Lex's and Michi's form, and using the top of my form on top of the new concept.
