Thinking and making it real

This project is making me think of how to properly put pieces together and how to destroy it in order to understand it's form. Students are required to build ten forms in Rhino and to unfold them. I researched for paper craft patterns and saw a lot of designs. I tried to understand the patterns and thought of how I can do it on Rhino, but just thinking about it did no help so I went on Youtube for help. I searched for different tutorials and I was able to find a few. Since then I've been watching tutorials and doing them on Rhino, however, I am still not sure if I am doing the project right. I was mostly exploring and playing around the software. Here are the forms I was able to unfold:

So this was the first form I did. I sketched a vase from a photo I found on Google. Greg Ball showed us how to make a sketch into a solid object by using sweep 2 rail but unfortunately I forgot how and I was too embarrassed to ask. I was able to find a tutorial but the object did not look right. So I proceeded on doing simple shapes.

I added a few tabs so I can print and try assembling it at home. I wanted to see if the twists would work in real life.

These two forms are just simple shapes that I was trying to unroll.

I sketched on a dragonfly photo and made it solid using extrude then exploded them into 4 different surfaces. Dragonflies are interesting insects. They symbolize change and to accept it.

This is just a logo I have been using to showcase my art. I used the same technique as the dragonfly one. I always wanted to have my logo in a sculptural manner or even as an LED design.

For these three forms, I followed a tutorial on Youtube. First, I followed the same shape to unroll then I made my own shapes. For the vase, I used a different tutorial to make this shape.

It takes awhile for me to remember the functions of the items in Rhino. There are times that I am not able to achieve what I wanted to do even when I followed instructions from tutorials. Speaking of tutorials, they were helpful especially when I can pause and look at the screen. However, the videos are on very specific items but I can use the techniques into my own creation.
